Cannot access Application Links (ERR_CONTENT_DECODING_FAILED)

Melwin Kieffer August 16, 2017

Hello,

Since I upgraded my Confluence Server from build `7109` to `7202` I cannot acces application links from admin menu.

I also migrated the instance to another server, means I also changed the reverse proxy, but I'm not sure it is relevant here.

I use the following Docker image to run my instance: https://hub.docker.com/r/cptactionhank/atlassian-confluence/

Anyway, I get an error 500 (ERR_CONTENT_DECODING_FAILED) in Chrome when I try to load `https://<my_domain>/plugins/servlet/applinks/listApplicationLinks`

I also receive a big stack trace in `atlassian-confluence.log`: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0MzbAgpEA1VSGpUc05HYmttWEk

I especially notice this line:

Invocation of method 'getConfluenceResourceTags' in  class com.atlassian.confluence.setup.velocity.VelocityFriendlyPageBuilderService threw exception java.lang.NullPointerException at /decorators/includes/header.vm[line 88, column 24]

And finally, I still have the issue even if I disable all my add-ons.

I hope I can find help here, thanks in advance for your replies.

Hi Shannon,

Thank you for your reply.

In fact, the problem was explained at https://confluence.atlassian.com/confkb/nullpointerexception-when-trying-to-configure-application-links-273285733.html

I found the link thanks to the log analyzer available in 'Confluence Admin >> Support Tools'.

I followed steps described at https://confluence.atlassian.com/confkb/server-id-shows-as-action-serverid-action-sid-or-n-v-181536632.html

But in my case I had to DELETE the database record and INSERT it again to get it updated in 'Confluence Admin >> System Information'.

Hi Melwin,

Could you have a look at Error 500 while trying to access some admin functions (NoClassDefFoundError com.atlassian.upm.osgi.impl.Versions) and try the resolutions there and see if you can resolve your issue that way? In particular, the first resolution.

If you continue to have issues please let us know and we can continue from there.

Kind Regards,
Shannon
