Can you view earlier versions of updated files?

I get that you can't revert to earlier versions of a file once you've updated it. Can you view an earlier version though?

Actually you can do both, and do it with attachments and pages (can't figure out from your question which interests you here).

For attachments, you can use the attachments macro to download a previous version to review it, and delete the current version to revert it.

For pages, select ••• -> Page History to view, compare, and revert to earlier versions.
