Can you tweak the Confluence search engine?

Martin Moser December 12, 2012

Is it possible to tweak Confluence's Lucene Search? Or even replace it? Generally our users are not very happy with it. It works ok as long as the search term is part of the page title or a label, but otherwise the overall impression is that the results are substandard.

I myself for example never use Confluence's own search when accessing their documentation but rather use Google after repeatedly not finding what I was looking for with the Confluence search but more or less instantly through Google with the same search terms.

Hi Martin,

A new plugin has appeared very recently on Atlassian marketplace which offers the possibility of tweaking the search results.

https://plugins.atlassian.com/plugins/com.hascode.plugin.search-boost-plugin

Atlassian have also developed some improvements over the standard search: https://plugins.atlassian.com/plugins/com.atlassian.confluence.plugins.awesomesearch/version/102000

Over the long term, it might be better to see what these plugins offer you rather than swap out the search completely. I'm sure we''ll see improvements come through the pipeline... even a combined Confluence / Jira search one day.
