Can you remove edit permissions from a group?

Only certain users should have the ability to edit pages in the space.  Everyone else can only view.  As far as I can tell, there are only edit permissions per page that default to editable and they don't inherit.  Is there a way I can do this without manually setting the permissions on each page?

You can remove the create page permission, which will then also remove edit permission for that group. Create and edit are bundled together in space permissions.
