Can't mention people in confluence using "@"

Samante Amini March 4, 2024

Hi community,

Unfortunately I have the problem that I cannot mention people in confluence articles using the @ symbol. Everytime I type “@” with my keyboard the cursor jumps away and I cannot select a user for mentioning on the page. I wiped my (windows) laptop, changed device, used Firefox, Chrome and Edge browsers but nothing helped so far.

Any ideas how to solve this problem?

Cheers

Hi Samante,

It seems like this issue happens when the '@' key is being pressed.

1) Was there a possibility it was configured as a shortcut or something?

2) Instead of using the cursor to select the user, have you tried using the keyboard arrow key (up and down) to select the user?

3) Was the keyboard set to a different language or layout or managed by other application?

Thanks for your response. Here the answers regarding your questions:

1) no shortcut, etc. configured

2) yes and that also didn't work

3) no

@Samante Amini I am not seeing this in my cloud instance. Is anyone else in your Confluence site able to mention someone?

Yes, other users do not have that restrictions and can use the mention function. It seems I'm the only one in the organization who has this problem

@Samante Amini Perhaps you have another application that uses @ as a hotkey that is overriding its use in Confluence. (I'm not sure if this is a possible thing)

Were you able to @ mention people previously? If so, it might narrow down the timeframe in which the change took place.

no I haven't configured a hotkey for @. And I was able to @ mention people previously and nobody was able to resolve  this problem so far
