I want to be able to have a specific HipChat room accessible in a specific confluence space. All users with access to the Space would have associated HipChat accounts. We want to be able to chat in this room on the confluence main page related to the topic, but also be able to see the chats in our hipchat.
Embedding HipChat like you describe isn't supported by the integration framework. At best, embedding can be done via guest access (putting a guest access URL in an iframe), but that doesn't allow your users to access via their "real" HipChat accounts. The HipChat Confluence integration allows you to receive notifications from a specific Confluence space and see user presence in Confluence among other things, but isn't designed for "linking" a room with a space like you're looking for.
It sounds like your suggestion could have some interesting uses though and we always appreciate feedback and suggestions about how we can improve the integrations with other Atlassian products. If you go to https://support.atlassian.com/help//hipchat/ you can file a suggestion so other users can watch/vote/comment on it.
This community is celebrating its one-year anniversary and Atlassian co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes has all the feels.
