Calendar drop down/variable type

Is there a way to add a small calendar variable so that when I want someone to enter a date it gives them a calendar to choose the day rather than a text box? This would be for due dates and completion dates and have nothing to do with Team Calendars. Regards.

Off the top of my head there is no way to do this out of the box. Could you describe the use-case a bit more?

Right now, if you type // you are given the option of entering a date. I often have written this on templates:

They SHOULD have it as an option, like the JIRA macro or the User mention. I created an improvement request here: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-37407
