Authorization on editing of a single page

Kirsten Pehl August 4, 2021

Hello everybody,

We are using Confluence as a space to document our business processes and to give some more information on our company.

On the main page (a description and introduction of our processes) all users/colleagues are only allowed to read, so that on the other pages (the processes) among the main page they are only allowed to read, too. On some pages we need to allow individual users to edit the page, but this is only possible if they are allowed to edit the main page. This means that they are allowed to edit every single page in the whole area, what we do not want to.

Is there any possibility to allow somebody to edit a single page whithout giving him or her the permission to edit all pages in the specified area?

If it is important, we are running on version 7.10.2.

Thanks in advance!

Kirsten

No.

To be able to edit a page in a space, a person has to have "edit pages" in the space.

What you'll need to do is abstract that page away from everyone else.  There are a couple of options - one is to apply restrictions that stop your single user editing anything other than the page you want to let them edit.

But I suspect a far more simple solution would be to have two spaces.  Let most of your people into Space 1, but leave out your single-page author, don't give them create/edit.  Give them create edit in Space 2, and put their page in Space 2.  Then, where you need to have their page(s) in Space 1, have a simple placeholder page with "include Space 2: the page" macros.

Thank you!

We use two different spaces yet, so I will try to implement option 2 :-)
