Alternate colors for tables

I saw an answer to this question from 5 years ago. I am seeing if anything has changed. Is there a way to have alternating colors for table rows in Confluence now?

Hi @Jerry Smith Ext. 32632

Are you looking to change the colour of a row of cells in a Confluence table?

In Confluence - there are two potential methods depending if you're using the new or legacy editor:

New Editor:

  1. Create a table in Confluence
  2. Highlight the cells in the row you wish to change the colour for
  3. In the most right-hand cell, select the small downwards arrow ("v") which appears in the top-right of the cell
  4. Hover over "Cell Background" and choose a new colour for that row

Legacy Editor:

  1. Create a table in Confluence
  2. Highlight the cells in the row you wish to change the colour for
  3. At the top of the page, there will be a sub-navigation bar for tables - it is between the main navigation bar and the contents on your page
  4. To the right of this bar is a colour drop-down (third from the right) - click this and select a colour

Let us know if this isn't what you were looking for - and perhaps link us to the existing question if there is a specific use case you're trying to replicate :)

Here is the link

The method you described works. I was looking for it to be automatic where the rows automatically alternate tables as rows are added.

Thank You for your help

Hi @Jerry Smith Ext. 32632

Have you tried some of the solutions around modifying the look-and-feel settings of Confluence from that page?

Alternatively the Table Plus Macro is part of the Advanced Tables for Confluence app - which appears to still have table styling as part of its offering :). You could give this app a trial and see if it helps for your instance?

(misplaced answer)

Holy moly this is bad. If you have alternating colors for columns, and you add a column, you have to update every row? Are you kidding me?

@Ben here's how...UPVOTE to get more traction on this feature request:

Select columns or rows in a table to apply formatting

@Benjamin Peikes - I was running into the same difficulty, a workaround that I am using for now is:

- Create a column in Excel with alternating colours that has the same amount of rows

- Copy that column over to the table in Confluence (to the first cell in the new row)

This was you don't need to make the changes one by one per row, not ideal...but it is saving me time with my 50 row table :) Hope that helps

Hello @Jerry Smith Ext. 32632

If you are still searching, you can do exactly that on Confluence Cloud using the alternating color feature of Elements Spreadsheet.

If you want a closer look I made this article to showcase the feature. Don't hesitate if you have any question.
