Allowing JIRA users access to confluence

I have 'users' and 'developers' groups set up in JIRA. I want to give these groups access to confluence. Do they have access automatically or do I need to first give them access to a 'space'.

When I click the 'groups' from the confluence admin panel I am taken back to JIRA as an administrator.

Do users and developers in JIRA automatically have accesss to confluence?

Just worked it out. I wasn't giving 'application access' to the users in the user management area.
