I'm running into a similar issue.  We have our instance configured for SSL connection.

We can access JIRA via mobile devices if we go through our secure proxy, we need to go this route because our application is not in the DMZ and the only way into it is via the Azure proxy.  It seems this would break any security rules if you allow pass thru without authentication
