I have identical small programs in intelliJ, a small class file, instantiate it in a main method, use only one method from the class object.
I'm getting sytanx highlighting for the Java version, I'm getting 0 feedback on the groovy version. Is there some type of configuration I need to make clover work with Groovy?

Unfortunately Groovy instrumentation is supported only for Ant or Maven and not supported from IntelliJ or Eclipse. We have open feature request which you can track here.
