Invalid license: Not a Clover license

Kumaravel Ayyakkannu September 1, 2017

As per the information provided on the clover is "Atlassian Clover is now available as an open-source project. Effective April 11, 2017 Clover is no longer available for purchase or renewal."

But, when I used the latest clover version (4.1.2), it's expecting a license and failed the build with error. If it's open source now, it should not ask for the license, right? If we  still need to provide a license(evaluation), can you provide the exact steps to generate license for Clover.

Also, the documents are not up-to-date for Ant -clover integration.  Can you please direct me to the right solution?

For example, it says as below.

Installing a license for Clover-for-Ant

  1. You need a valid Clover license file to run Clover. You can obtain a free 30 day evaluation license or purchase a commercial license at http://www.atlassian.com.

C:\work\workspace\poc\antpoc>ant clean with.clover test clover.html
Buildfile: C:\work\workspace\poc\antpoc\build.xml
[echo] C:\Program Files\clover-ant-4.1.2\lib\clover.jar

clean:

with.clover:
[clover-setup] Clover Version 4.1.2, built on October 11 2016 (build-994)
[clover-setup] Loaded from: C:\Program Files\clover-ant-4.1.2\lib\clover.jar
[clover-setup] Invalid license: Not a Clover license. []

BUILD FAILED

As per open source announcement blog Atlassian has open sourced Clover and the sources are avaiable at Bitbucket, but no more Clover versions are planned to be relaeased (with a restriction to any potential security and critucal bugs). This means all Clover binaries available on www.atlassian.com page are Clover commercial releases which require Clover license (mostly for our customers who purchased Clover before open source)

If you want to use Clover there are at least two of ways how you can do it:

  • Compile Clover from sources, there's official documentation how to do it here
  • Take an interest in Clover forks released by a community, e.g OpenClover
