why can't I fork a repo in Bitbucket?

Abdulqudus Oladega March 21, 2024

I am an admin on a workspace. When a user with project-level permissions for a certain repository attempts to fork it within the workspace and selects the dropdown menu to choose a workspace, nothing appears. Instead, they receive the message 'This field is required. You must specify an owner.' How can this issue be resolved? What are the workarounds?

Hi Abdulqudus,

The symptoms you have described seem to align with a bug ticket that has been raised, feel free to Watch this and click This Affects My Team to receive future updates related to progress on the ticket and to assist our development team with gauging impact:

The workaround at this point in time is as follows:

  • Navigate to Workspace Settings > User Groups
  • Access the user group that the user is a member of
  • Click Edit and tick Can create projects in this workspace
  • They should now be able to perform the fork

Hope this helps, please let us know if any issues.

Cheers!
