sourcetree, works with github, cannot login to bitbucket

Matt Phillips April 6, 2016

I've recently downloaded and installed sourcetree (1.8.3).

I'm behind a NTLM proxy, I've managed to connect to github so think I have set sourcetree up correctly to work with our proxy.

But I can't manage to connect to bitbucket.

If I try to add my Bitbucket account via View>Show Hosted Repositories>Edit Accounts...>Add whatever I try I get the following error message:

The 'BR' start tag on line 6 position 30 does not match the end tag of 'FONT'. Line 7, position 3.

A quick google on this message gives https://forums.aws.amazon.com/thread.jspa?threadID=43571#169778 which, although unrelated to sourcetree, gives a possible explanation that the above error message is Proxy Authentication Required.

In which case it appears that connecting to github uses the proxy setup I've specified, but Bitbucket does not?

Its quite frustrating that I can get Atlassian's SourceTree to work with GitHub but not with Atlassian's Bitbucket!

If I try this another way, and on bitbucket.org in my repo click on the 'Clone in SourceTree' button the 'URL Actions' dialog pops up but for the Clone from url says 'This is not a valid source path / URL', clicking details gives

fatal: unable to access 'https://<username>@bitbucket.org/<username>/bitbuckstationsupplies.git/'@ Unknown SSL protocol error in connection to bitbuclet.org:443

Can anyone give any help?

I got the same error with Tower trying to connect to a Visual Studio TFS account. I also have proxy so indeed it may be the case.
