[resolved] Git LFS requires password for public repository from anonymous user

Hello

I maintain an open-source project on BitBucket, which has a public repository there. Since there are a lot of binary files, I use Git LFS to store them.

Now a user, who wants to clone this repository told me, that he has to enter credentials for the LFS files. Since he has no bitbucket account, he did not enter anything. In this case the clone process stops with an error message "Credentials not found" when trying to download LFS files.

Can Git LFS only be used with a valid bitbucket account? Or is this an error?
Before I switched the repository to public, it was a private repository. Maybe the "public" state has not been propagated to the LFS storage?

How can I debug this?

After discussing this issue with the support, we found the root cause: My username was part of the URL, which the user used for cloning. Thus he had to provide a password, even for a public repository.

Using the raw repository URL (without username before bitbucket.org), works fine.
