diff between two branches

Timo Schäfer March 7, 2016

Hi,

I'm a bit confused about the page showing diffs of two different branches. I can see a lot of files with diffs but acutally there are no differencies at all. The file might have had some commits in between but the last state of the file of each branch is the same.

Even using "git diff branch1 branch2 -- file" doesn't show any differencies.

Can you tell me what the page is showing and is there any way to show a "real" diff between two branches?

Regards,
Timo.

Compare between branches seems totally broken.  I find it kind of unbelievable that this is not a priority feature.  It's one of the main reasons I use it.  I have had to move everything to github now.

Thank you @Ryan Blake, I also created my own (https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BSERV-9534) that mentions this discussion thread as well as passing the issue to our internal department which can the decide which details can be shown to Atlassian. Hopefully they will update one of the tickets at some point.

Hi there @Nicolae Tudor
I found this one and commented on it recently.
https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BSERV-7375

But it does not seem like it is really on their priority list.

Is there a JIRA number for this issue? I also have the problem.

I have also logged a call as this is clearly incorrect. I confuses developers and they get a fright thinking things have changed that actually haven't.

I would like an answer on this as well.  I look at two files between each branch individually, and they are the same.  Diffing branches, it shows that there are deltas, which is wrong.
