Why is red dot in bitbucket PR code displayed in front of open parentheses when there is no extra character?

Just noticed that Stash/Bitbucket sometimes puts a red dot at the beginning of a line/file that starting with parens, e.g.

What is the purpose of that? It is valid JavaScript, and doesn't need any sort of warning, it would seem.

A red dot is used for Unicode values that can't  be rendered. Usually you see this at the start of a file because the file has a BOM - Byte Order Mark character. If you hover the dot you'll  see it's  likely \ufeff
