What does "The username is associated with this email address on Bitbucket" mean?

When trying to create a Plan I'm getting a validation error that says

"The username <blah> is associated with this email address on Bitbucket"

What does this mean and how can I resolve it?

From the description it sounds like the existing account is already in use. If that is the case the only way around it is to come up with another username unfortunately.
