Trying to switch to app password fails authentication from SourceTree

I followed the instructions on how to add an app password in Sourcetree, and it showed I was properly authenticated but I get an "Invalid username or password" error when I try to grab data, saying my authentication failed even though I was able to authenticate when I entered the app password. And now, I cannot use sourcetree at all with my repos.  Please help!

so it turns out that people have this problem all the time... and you have to manually go into AppData\Local\Atlassian\Sourcetree and delete the "passwd" file that is there for you to be able to make this update.  

So why can't Atlassian people fix this so people don't have to do this rigamarole when you are trying to change your authentication type?

That didn't help me. Now SourceTree locks up when I try to add an authentication.
