Sending email notifications to team alias

Ryan Burnham January 24, 2018

I currently have a personal bitbucket account that work has granted me access to their repositories (shows as a Team). This all work fine except that any pull request notification emails are sent to the email address i used for my bitbucket account instead of my work account. I've setup an alias email address but that doesn't seem to do anything. How can i setup notifications from a team to go to a separate email address?

If i go to Settings > Notifications  i can see my personal email. If i click Configure Email i see the correct work email as an alias. But it also says "Your Atlassian account address is: my@personal.email (manage your Atlassian account)". If i click manage your Atlassian account it takes me to https://id.atlassian.com/profile/profile.action. Here the email shows as correctly as my work email address. If i go to Change email address i still see the correct work address but also get the message

Hi Ryan! Emails won't be sent to the alias, they'll be sent to your primary email address

Your primary email address should be the same as the email address showing at  https://id.atlassian.com/profile/profile.action. If that's not your case, it could be a cache issue. Please log out of https://id.atlassian.com/profile/profile.action and your Bitbucket accounts, clear cache and cookies, and try again.

If after doing that you still see a mismatch, let us know so we can continue helping you further.

Cheers!

Ana

Ok so it seems like i was logged into  https://id.atlassian.com/profile/profile.action with my work account which is why i was seeing the email address correctly.

The problem though is bitbucket is setup to have one primary account and then that account can be given access to repositories by joining a team. Instead of creating a new bitbucket for every new job.

If i chance my email address under https://id.atlassian.com/profile/profile.action won't this also chance my email address for when i need to do things like reset password? if i leave my job how can i recover my account?

It seems like the email address a notification is sent to should be relative to the team that it relates to. If it doesn't relate to a team then it should send to the primary email address for the account. My last 2 jobs have used teams this way.

Sadly it seems the only fix was to create a separate  bitbucket account for my new job which defeats the purpose of bitbucket teams. I hope this gets fixed because the Teams feature works perfectly except you need to be able to control where notifications are sent to at a team level.

This is one of those features that Github has had for years, which makes it better IMO. For contractors like me, who have multiple personal and work addresses, this is such a necessary feature!

This feature should have been implemented long ago. It's a MUST. I'm missing lots of information because I don't check my personal e-mail (often) while at work.
