[SOLVED] "Insecure Connection" warning (SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN) in Firefox for pics hosted on bitbucket.

Manuel Reiter January 30, 2017

I'm hosting pictures for my projects' README files on a static website hosted on Bitbucket cloud as described in https://confluence.atlassian.com/bitbucket/publishing-a-website-on-bitbucket-cloud-221449776.html. I used to use my main account (m_reiter) for that but recently had to create a new account (mrpics) since the underscore character is not supported for DNS (although it worked flawlessly for at least a couple of years).

Hosting pictures on my new account worked at first, but today Firefox gave me an "Insecure Connection" warning stating

mrpics.bitbucket.org uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is only valid for the following names:
 bitbucket.org, www.bitbucket.org

Error code: SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN

Can anybody tell me what's happening here and whether there is a way around it?

Thanks in advance for any hints or insights offered!

Apparently this was some kind of transient phenomenon - pics work as expected today.
