RHEL 5 and MySQL

I have a message on my Stash portal - "The current database, MySQL 5.0.95, is unsupported."

I have the latest and greatest version of MySQL version from RedHat installed on a RHEL5. Unfortunately is this not supported?

RHEL6 supports mysql 5.1 and above. Does this mean that I have to upgrade to RHEL6 to get full support?

I would prefer to keep going on RHEL5 without upgrading to RHEL6 for sometime and was wondering if I can keep using Stash on RHEL 5 and MySQL 5.0.95 and if so what would be the potential impact?

Hi Safir,

Unfortunately I can't tell you explicitly what might not work. Stash is not tested at all with 5.0.x, so we can't guarantee that it will behave or function correctly

To give you more of a concrete example, MySQL 5.6.x introduced a bug that meant that our permission queries would return incorrect results. If you're interested here is the bug report:

MySQL 5.6.11 then fixed that but introduced a row ordering bug which breaks the repository listing.

If you're running Stash in production I highly recommend you upgrade MySQL to a supported version, or look at alternative databases like PostgreSQL. Sorry I can't tell you more about the specific impact with 5.0.95.
