I have successfully set up a new BitBucket Server hosted repo with some image files stored in an artifactory Git LFS repo.
On client side (all dev clones) push / pull / checkout operations on those files work just as expected.
But in BitBucket web UI, LFS-tracked files are not shown :
git lfs client is installed on the server hosting BitBucket, as well.
Is Bitbucket Server's LFS support limited to its own storage system ?
That's correct, Bitbucket Server is only able to display files stored in LFS if they're stored locally. There is an open feature request to add support for using LFS with Artifactory which is being tracked at https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BSERV-9721
There is also a more general feature request about supporting the use of external LFS storage at https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BSERV-9635
