How we can migrate Bitbucket from on-prem infra to the cloud ?

We are working on building a plan for migrating Bitbucket from on-prem datacenter to the cloud ( AWS infrastructure or any other cloud provider…)

We need to find the best solution and the suitable architecture for the migration.
Could you recommend alternatives for that?
For the Database migration. How we can do that safely without losing data?
Any recommendation could help.

Hi @Dhouha Melki , welcome to the Community!

For starters, we do have some resources that will be useful:

  • AWS Quickstart for Bitbucket Data Center - our official template for creating a Bitbucket Data Center environment with recommended sizing in AWS. There is a 27 page document describing this environment, as well as information on modifying the template as you need for your own organization's sizing.
  • Atlassian's officially provided Bitbucket Data Center Migration tool can help you export/import all the data from your on-premise environment to another Bitbucket Data Center environment. This uses application-level methods (the REST API) to copy data - you won't have to fiddle with the database directly. The two caveats with the migration tool:
    • Git LFS objects need to be copied manually (these would be on your shared filesystem)
    • Marketplace app data is not included with the tool - you will need to contact the publishers of any apps you have installed about migrating data

I'd start with those two items - you may find that's all you need to get going! I'm happy to answer more questions here as well. If you find that you need a significant amount of help, I'd also recommend searching our Partner directory for a partner who has experience with Bitbucket & Migrations. These specialists can be contracted to assist with or even fully handle a migration if you need.

Hey @Daniel Eads

Thank you for your reply. It is really helpful.
