How to take notice of a new stash release?

Felix Herzog August 27, 2013

I am wondering why I don't get any E-Mail when a new stash release is out. Is there a way to opt-in to a notification? I did not find it yet.

Hi,

Please refer to this answer which contains a list of RSS feeds with links to latest binaries for all Atlassian Server/Data Center products.

This RSS feed can be monitored to check for new versions being available.

Cheers,

Caterina - Atlassian

Hi Felix,

There is no such service from us today(newsletter sending).

But you can always check on your Stash footer for the information about new versions.

If there is a new version available, a message will always be shown on the footer.

This answer is not correct. Atlassian does send out a newsletter that also announces new releases:

https://www.atlassian.com/newsletter/overview

Additionally, technical contacts (generally the person who has bought the product) will receive a release email to make them aware of the new version.

Stash does not have notifications in the footer to announce new releases.

Cheers,
Jens

Hi Felix,

just use the stash blog with an rss-reeder.

http://blogs.atlassian.com/blog-cat/stash/

Most Stash releases aren't announced there, e.g. Stash 3.8 and Stash 3.9 were never announced, say nothing of Stash 3.9.2.

Follow this RSS feed:

https://my.atlassian.com/download/feeds/stash.rss

You could also use this, if you'd prefer it in JSON format for some reason.

https://my.atlassian.com/download/feeds/current/stash.json

Atlassian still seems to be very negligent/ignorant on maintaining the RSS-feeds (or other version resources).

Example:

  • 2014-10-21 Release of STASH 3.4.0
  • 2014-11-07 Release of STASH 3.4.1
  • 2014-11-19 Release of STASH 3.4.3

Currently (2014-11-19) the STASH-Release RSS (https://my.atlassian.com/download/feeds/stash.rss) still shows Stash 3.3.2 (2014-10-09) as current version.

I cannot understand, why it's so hard to support a RELYABLE (scriptable) Source of most recent versions of Atlassian products. It's a shame ... sad

The only relyable source still seems to be https://my.atlassian.com/download/feeds/current/stash.json

We have the same problem with being notified of Confluence releases.

If anyone could build a poll-and-notify-emails page for https://www.atlassian.com/software/confluence/download(or Stash's, or...), that would be great.

(Apparently this has been here since 2011, but wasn't linked from anywhere, I'm trying to follow that up)

All your suggestions are not correct in all situations:

The current stash version is 2.10.1

The only relyable things seem to be:

It's a pity - but it is as it is ... :-(

Hmm you are right,

For JIRA I use the KB-page: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRAKB

For Confluence: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONFKB

Everthing is up2date. (And also with an RSS-Link)

Same page for Stash: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/STASHKB

=> Page exists but is not up2date!

Maybe Atlassian has to do something here...

The blog did mention Stash 2.10 within the Happy Holidays post, but we neglected to include it in the title. We'll try to be more consistent in future so you can rely on that feed for updates.

Hi Andrew/Johannes,

I started to investigate this for you and it turns out there is an RSS feed.

https://my.atlassian.com/download/feeds/stash.rss

This has the latest version, but not the archived versions. Does that work for you?

There are way too many places to possibly look for verison number for Stash.

It would be helpful for most people if there are relieable places to look for latest version (and they should be consistent and actual with their information).

At least I found a place, which works for my needs:https://my.atlassian.com/download/feeds/current/stash.jsonI've written a local script to compare against local version and indicate wether an update is possible ...

@Charles: Will try your suggestions ...

Those rss/json feeds should be accurate. They're based on the exact same data as the download page. The Confluence pages and blogs are being done by hand, so I wouldn't rely on them for scripting purposes.

The best option currently is to watch this page:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/STASH/Releases

Unfortunately it will only get updated when a major/minor release is made. Bug fix release changelogs are added to each of the subpages.

That's not true for the moment: latest Stash version is 2.7.1 - but https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/STASH/Stash+2.7+release+notes does not have any information about it ...

Thanks for pointing that out Johannes, I have updated the release notes
