How to create a fork repo from a tagged commit (not HEAD)

tdacox October 31, 2017

I have a BitBucket repo with a single master branch and a series of tags (one for each commit to master). I would now like to create a forked repo from a tag this is not the latest commit. For example, I would like my forked repo to be initialized based on tag: NetTracMT_Conv_9_47_0_0 in the below screen capture.

Can this be done in BitBucket?

I received this from a colleague. I would be interested in comments from this community please.

  1. Fork the project
  2. Discard all commits ahead of the last commit you want (reset –hard reference)
  3. Force push your changes
