How should a CVS repo with related projects be migrated to GIT

Yüksel Memiş December 8, 2017

I have one CVS repository with 20 projects in it.

The developer connected to that repo checks out only the ones he/she needs to work.

Branches are used for individual projects.

Those 20 are related projects. That is in IDE one project can be used as a library inside another one by importing it as war file to the other project.

Questions:

  • Since the projects are related should I transfer the whole CVS repository to one repository in Bitbucket? If not, I don’t think that developers can check out from different repositories inside one project in IDE.
  • Will the developers have limitations on some features if the whole CVS repo be migrated to a single Bitbucket repo? For example they told me they are using branches for those projects. Will they have limitations on creating branches?
  • Documentation on CVS to GIT migration is rare I think. Can you provide some if possible? (Related to migrating the whole repo and project by project if needed).
