G Suite SSO - Atlassian vs Bitbucket accounts

Chadd Portwine October 11, 2018

Context

We would like to use G Suite credentials to log in to Bitbucket.

I would like to use Google's G Suite as the IdP for SSO. I am confused about a few things.

I see these options for SSO:

  a)  gsync: https://jahnelgroup.atlassian.net/admin/gsync

  b) Atlassian Access: https://confluence.atlassian.com/cloud/security-with-atlassian-access-938859736.html

  c) Plugins: There are also plugins in the marketplace for SSO, but these are for Bitbucket Server and don't apply to our cloud account.

Questions

Option a) above, gsync, seems simple and free. But I'm uncertain it will support bitbucket. I think I have read here that if we have Jira & Bitbucket accounts, the gsync option will work for both. Is this true, and how does it look on the Bitbucket side of user management? Both Atlassian and Bitbucket users will be synced every 4 hours?

Option b) above, Atlassian Access, seems more capable and is not free. Why would I use this option if I only wanted to use G Suite for login credentials?
