Component Software Repository Import

Wayne Hans September 1, 2017

We're currently updating our source control to BitBucket/SourceTree from a very old product from Component Software called CS-RCS PRO V 5.1.  This product stores the repository as flat files (not typical database) and we would like to find out if/how to import this data into BitBucket/SourceTree.  I was hoping someone out there may have some experience or recommendations since we have over 10 years of versioning in the old software that we really don't want to lose.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Wayne, first you'll need to move from CS-RCS to Git or Mercurial, those are the 2 DVCS supported by Bitbucket. I found some examples that you might use as a guide:

- For Git https://blogs.msmvps.com/alunj/2016/08/26/got-on-with-git/

- For Mercurial https://stackoverflow.com/questions/3535412/migrating-from-cs-rcs-to-mercurial

Once you've completed that part, yu can import your data to Bitbucket:

- If you're going to use Bitbucket Server, follow Importing code.

- If you're going to use Bitbucket Cloud, you can find the steps at Import a repository.

 Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply, Ana.  The current hurdle is getting past the Windows 10 requirement.  We have clients with Windows 7 and a Windows 2012 server.  I'm doing research to see if I can find a way around it, but nothing so far.
