Hi,
I wanted to let you know that after updating my aws linux today, Bitbucket would no longer start.
upon "service atlbitbucket start" i would get the following output:
To run Bitbucket in the foreground, start the server with start-bitbucket.sh -fg Starting Atlassian Bitbucket as dedicated user atlbitbucket Using BITBUCKET_HOME: /var/atlassian/application-data/stash Using CATALINA_BASE: /opt/atlassian/bitbucket/4.1.3 Using CATALINA_HOME: /opt/atlassian/bitbucket/4.1.3 Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /opt/atlassian/bitbucket/4.1.3/temp Using JRE_HOME: /opt/atlassian/bitbucket/4.1.3/jre Using CLASSPATH: /opt/atlassian/bitbucket/4.1.3/bin/bitbucket-bootstrap.jar:/opt/atlassian/bitbucket/4.1.3/bin/bootstrap.jar:/opt/atlassian/bitbucket/4.1.3/bin/tomcat-juli.jar Using CATALINA_PID: /opt/atlassian/bitbucket/4.1.3/work/catalina.pid Existing PID file found during start. Removing/clearing stale PID file. Tomcat started. Success! You can now use Bitbucket at the following address: http://localhost:7990/ If you cannot access Bitbucket at the above location within 3 minutes, or encounter any other issues starting or stopping Atlassian Bitbucket, please see the troubleshooting guide at: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/BitbucketServerKB/Troubleshooting+Installation
This indicated to me that there were no problems. However, running "service atlbitbucket status" would return "
Bitbucket is not running".
I had to do some digging in the logs and finally found in "/opt/atlassian/bitbucket/4.1.3/logs/catalina.out" that "Atlassian Bitbucket does not support Java 1.7.0_95. Please start the product with Java 8 or greater."
It would've been great if that message appeared during the failed startup.
I suggest sending a feature request here in https://jira.atlassian.com
