I'm not sure how you missed https://confluence.atlassian.com/bitbucketserver/bitbucket-server-installation-guide-867338382.html

The trial licence will expire after a month at which time the server will disable most of its functions and hence become mostly useless to your users.  Prices are at https://bitbucket.org/product/pricing - make sure you select "server", as you're running it on your own machines.

i have downloaded a trial version and the file is in archive form.

is it necessary to install bitbucket using sudo or root access on the the unix box

Not necessary, but recommended, so it can be installed in the default place and run under a dedicated account.
