The settings->license page gives 500 error and I am unable to update a new evalauation license. please let me know how I can extend the evaluation license.

If you are running Bitbucket Server 5.6.0, you may be experiencing the BSERV-10428 bug.
As a workaround, try to update the license by using the REST end point:
curl -u <username>:<password> -X POST -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"license":"<license key>"}' <Bitbucket base url>/<context path>/rest/api/1.0/admin/license
