Basic Introduction to Using BitBucket/SourceTree for non-Technical people

mlevison May 14, 2013

Bear with me as this might sound insane.

As recovering software developer - I keep all of my business documents in a bitbucket repo (madness perhaps :-). So far so good. In the past few months I've hired an assistant and have given her access to my repo. So far so good.

What I missing - a basic set of instructions that would allow her:

  • to do initial pull of my repo using SourceTree
  • to commit and push her changes

The existing instructions include alot of info about setting up a repo - which she doesn't care about. They also fairly complicated for someone who has never used version control.

Can anyone help? Worst case I spend a couple of hours on google hangout with her until we get it done :-)

Mark,

This shows how to do a clone which should get her started:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/BITBUCKET/Sourcetree+Git+GUI+on+Windows

That is in the Bitbucket documentation; I haven't yet built a tutorial around Sourcetree. A user has written this:

I haven't worked through it myself or even read it.
