Atlassian support for running Bitbucket Data Center nodes as Docker containers

Mark Brown December 12, 2018

When last looking (around March 2018) at the Bitbucket Server official docker image by Atlassian, as available in Github and Dockerhub, I found little in the way of configuration in support of Data Center.

It now appears as though the configuration has expanded to support deploying this image as a Bitbucket Data Center node.

Is the use of docker containers for deploying Bitbucket DC in production environments supported by Atlassian?

If so, the target platform for the Bitbucket DC containers would be OpenShift/Kubernetes. I came across another question (https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Bitbucket-questions/Bitbucket-Data-Center-on-Kubernetes-Openshift-without-Multicast/qaq-p/934830) which highlighted that 2 customers were having issues with configuring and getting hazelcast to work on Openshift/Kubernetes. Is this possible and also is the use of OpenShift/Kubernetes a supported deployment platform endorsed by Atlassian?

Hi Mark!

Everything that's inside Docker is supported (it doesn't matter if you're using Docker or something else), what we don't support is Docker itself and the issues originating from Docker.

Hope this clarifies! Let us know if you have any questions.

Cheers,

Ana
