After establishing ssh key on user account, it still asks for passphrase for cloning repositories

Jonathan Kim February 9, 2016
I did generate ssh key and add the key on my stash account. However, passphrase is kept prompt for cloning repositories. How do I establish the ssh connnection so that passphrase is asked only once for the first time?

I will add for other people who might have same problems as I did. I found that if I add empty passphrase, I won't be asked for the passphrase any longer.

Hi,

When you created your SSH key you would have added pass-phrase (this is a very good thing), so when you use it you need that passphrase. You can cache your credentials, although the setup of such caching varies by operating system. What operating system are you running? Although its probably easiest if you just Google for "ssh passphrase cache" or "ssh-agent".

Regards,
Ben
