Run "test" builds while configuring a plan in Bamboo

MD May 21, 2013

Oftentimes I will be creating or modifying a build plan in Bamboo and I need to run it to see whether it builds successfully. Sometimes it takes multiple tries before I configure it correctly. As a result, I get lots of failed builds in my build history.

How can I make temporary "test" builds to verify that my build is configured correctly, without mucking up the build history?

You can remove results from a plan's history, but Bamboo will still increment the build number and show a gap in the graphs.

One idea is to clone a plan temporarily, where you can do all the configuration and testing. Once it's all working you can copy the changes back to the original, and delete the clone. This works if you're creating a new plan too--just set up the temporary plan first, and then clone it into the "real" plan.

This is not ideal, of course. It'd be great to have some build plan CM capabilities integrated into Bamboo.
