Can't run Bamboo as a local user, just get a 503: Service Unavailable

emddudley May 13, 2012

I tried to change my Bamboo service (on Windows XP) to run as a local user rather than as the local system, following Atlassian's directions. When I make the change and restart the service, I get a "503: Service Unavailabe" error when I try to connect over HTTP.

The log files don't have any useful information. Any ideas how to fix that?

I recommend getting in touch with support - they can help you from there.

For anyone else who has this problem, please first check that the account that the Bamboo service runs under has full control on the Bamboo home directory, and [read, write, execute] permissions on the installation directory. If it doesn't you will get a 503 error, but the logs will not tell you why because the user account that the service runs under does not have permission to write to the log.

Good luck
