Can I simply snapshot the disk volume and DB as Bamboo backup?

Our Bamboo instance (5.2.2) usually crashes on a scheduled backup with artifacts (and tends to produce very large files we could do without). Without artifacts , it takes more than 8 hours to backup, I simply have to kill it to prevent holding up developers from running their builds. Will a snapshot of the disk and the database suffice as backup? I know this is the recommended method for very large Confluence instances, but does this apply to Bamboo ?
