Bamboo Cloud EOL to Server Migration - Export option not available

Juan Escobar July 14, 2016

We are currently using (and have only ever used) Elastic Bamboo agents with Bamboo OnDemand/Cloud. Becuase of the Bamboo Cloud EOL announcement, we are in the process of setting up a hosted Bamboo server by following the migration documentation.

We are currently stuck at this export step because we do not have the option available to us.

The accounts we have tried this doing this with are part of the Bamboo Admin group, yet it does not show up for any of us. I have read that it was enabled for Bamboo Cloud users because of the EOL announcement too.

Are we completely misunderstanding if or how this migration process applies to us?

Summarizing what we learned before being able to export:

  1. The Artifact Storage size is NOT the total instance size - Atlassian does not provide a way to see the total home directory size of the instance.
  2. If possible, set a "bare minimum" expiry policy on Overview > Plans > Expiry and run it manually or let it run on schedule (we let it run at its daily scheduled time)
  3. Delete old or obsolete plans on Overview > Plans > Remove Plans
  4. Export option should now be enabled - at this point we had to contact Atlassian again:
    1. They suspect Bamboo needed a restart
    2. Instead they manually enabled it for us
  5. Export to server option was immediately available for use

We are having the same issue, we do not publish artifacts to Atlassian Cloud, I guess we just have too many build & deployment logs, But how many do we delete? We configured an expiry policy and click on "run now", but that returns an error and nothing happens.

If Atlassian knows we are exceeding the 25gb limit, why don't let us know by how much?

We had also attempted to configure an expiry policy that would supposedly clean old builds and logs thoroughly without luck.

According to the Atlassian rep on the support ticket we created, the export option is only available when the total instance size is less than 25GB, not just the artifact storage, which is definitely not something we are able to see and made this procedure frustrating.

What ended up working for us was to go through all our plans and completely deleting old/obsolete ones Overview > Plans > Remove Plans.

After doing this we simply replied back letting them know we cleaned up our instance and still could not see the option, so they just verified the instance size and manually enabled it for us.

Quoting from the Migration Hub :

The export functionality in Bamboo Cloud is enabled only for customers whose Bamboo Cloud instance is less than in 25 GB in size. For more information, see FAQ.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why I don't see the Export to server option in the administration panel?

We're enabling the Export to server option automatically only for customers whose Bamboo Cloud instance size is less than 25 GB.
Check whether you can reduce the size of your instance by trimming artifacts. For more information, see Reducing size of artifacts in Bamboo.

We are not exactly sure where we would see the size of the Bamboo Cloud instance. We have checked that the Artifact Storage is under the 25 GB size though.

The only other place we can see any sort of instance size is under 'Overview > Elastic Bamboo > Image Configuration' for the images we have associated, but it doesn't sound like this is what we want.
