Audi's iconic four-ringed logo represents the principles of Vorsprung durch Technik, which means "advancement through technology." So, it's no wonder that their research + development centers are driving pedals to the metal on cutting edge projects like plug-in hybrids + and self-piloted cars. In this Showcase, you will discover how Jira + Confluence help Audi R+D employees accelerate innovation with Atlassian.

Audi R+D

Audi's 6,000+ R+D team is made up of engineers, designers software developers, and QA teams that are located in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm, Germany. (Plus all of the global suppliers they work with). True to form, their "advancement through technology" mantra led them to Atlassian products to help keep their R+D operations running like a...er...well-oiled machine ;).

Jira

Audi's implemented Jira as a solution to keeping everyone on the same page and with quick access to information. At first, it was just used as a simple issue tracker for the engineering teams, but that usage has evolved over time. Now, Jira is used to collect thousands of new feature ideas and requests as well as to log bugs during road testing. Audi Business Analyst, Martin Binder, says of Jira's impact:

"People are practicing more knowledge-sharing than ever before, resulting in more transparency and efficiency. For example, we’ve been able to replace the typical Excel to-do lists, which is, from an IT specialist’s perspective, pretty excellent."

Confluence

To keep the team operating at max speed, Audi uses Confluence in conjunction with Jira to store and share knowledge documentation, department protocols, meeting notes, and policies.

Marketplace Apps

Audi also integrates Jira with legacy systems, including LDAP directory and IBM application middleware, and adds features to Jira and Confluence using third-party apps from the Atlassian Marketplace.

Speedily ever after
Through Jira and Confluence, "people simply communicate their requirements to us, and we can quickly generate a project or dashboard,” says Florian Banzer, business analyst at Audi AG. “People are practicing more knowledge-sharing than ever before, resulting in more transparency and efficiency,” says Audi Business Analyst Martin Binder.

And that's the end of the road for this Community Showcase! If you'd like to be featured or you're curious if another company uses Atlassian products, feel free to send me an email to bsauer@atlassian.com.
