Step 1- Buy in From Your Organization Ensure that your needs on the cloud are met by your organization (Compliance, Security Legal ) and that you have an Executive Sponsor for the Project to fund it. You can set up a tentative date for the migration once you have a sufficient approvals, however this date will confirmed after a full round of successful testing
Step 2- App Assessment- Ensure that you know exactly which apps you will need in the cloud and that you are aware of the differences between the functionality in Server and Cloud
Step 3 a- Set up a Cloud Test Site If you haven’t already, now’s the time to sign up for a cloud site. You'll need to decide if you want to perform your test to a trial site or to your production site.
If you decide to use a trial site you can:
activate your free cloud migration trial
set up a standard 7 day trial (this will revert to a Free plan after the trial)
The format for your site name (URL) will be https://example.atlassian.net/, where example is a unique character string that you specify.
Site names are chosen for an entire Atlassian cloud site at the time you sign up for your first product – for example, when you first sign up for Jira Software Cloud or Confluence Cloud.
There are a few things to be aware of when choosing your site name:
Step 3 b - Clean up your server instance
Step 3 c- Set up a Server Staging Environment if you’re an Enterprise Customer
Step 4- Have a very Solid Migration Strategy based on your use case and the method you will use to migrate
Step 4a- Finalize the Strategy
Step 4b - Select a methodology
Step 5- Testing
Update your Migration Runbook to ensure you have all the steps captured and note down the approximate time the migration will take https://www.atlassian.com/migration/cloud/toolkit#
Confirm your production Migration Date
