Updated 18 March 2020:
Thank you to all for your interest and feedback in our tool thus far! Based on the feedback, we’ve made two primary improvements to the tool:
significantly decrease the downtime required for full data-consistency, for medium-to-large load profiles
provide better UX guidance on the steps required in the migration journey
At a high level, the tool aims to help you migrate from Jira Server-on-self-hosted-deployments to Jira Data-Center-on-AWS-QuickStarts. It is a Marketplace app that you can install in your instance. It helps you walk through the steps with deploying Jira on AWS Quickstarts, and handling the process of copying the data over to the new deployment. There are some pre-requisites and limitations with using this tool:
this tool is currently only applicable for Jira.
you need to be using Postgres as your database.
you need to be using Linux.
it’s best suited for medium-to-large load profiles. If the load profile is extra-large, the tool may require more than 48 hours downtime, depending on the size of the database.
you already have your own AWS account.
some downtime is still required for full data consistency between your current and new deployment (required only when copying over the database data)
If you’re interested in using this tool, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. While these improvements are still in development, we’d be able to show you how it works in more detail and see if it suits your use case, and let you know firsthand when it’s ready for you to use.
