How to manage your team without time tracking tools?


It isn't easy to measure team effectiveness without information about one of the main resources - time. You can use various time management tools to keep track of time. But managers know how challenging it is to force employees to log their working hours. Therefore, it turns out to be one of the most difficult tasks to track teams' time to work on issues.

To solve this problem, the Time in Status for Jira Cloud application was developed. It allows you to calculate the time the issue has spent in each of the statuses automatically and to which user it has been assigned.

In addition to automatic calculation, the great advantage of this tool is analyzing historical data. No matter when you have installed the application, you will always have access to archived data. Time in Status report for each assignee.

This report allows you to get Jira time in status data for issues assigned to the user you need. This information lets you analyze which stage while solving the issue has taken the most time. Then you will have the reason to investigate why the delays have occurred. This allows you to make conclusions and further efforts to improve the efficiency of employees. 

How to get: Select Time in status report and filter the issue list by assignee you need.

Total time each assignee has been working on a particular issue

Time in Status for Jira Cloud allows you to monitor all users that have been assigned to the particular issue. And it shows how long each one was responsible for each issue. This information allows you to analyze the work effectiveness and human efforts that have been spent on it. You can also monitor employees' productivity and make future decisions to improve team efficiency based on this information. 

How to get: Select Assignee report. Additionally, you can choose other options to select the issue list by JQL, project, filter, sprint, date range, etc.

Also, the application allows you to calculate Assignee time for user groups. If you need to count the time a team of several people (such as developers or QA-s) has been working on tasks, you can create a separate column in the time report, where all summarized data on this command will be displayed. 


Monitor whether anyone has been working on a particular issue too.

If you want to get information on how many people have been assigned to a particular task and how long they have been working on it, simple Time in Status for Jira Cloud settings provides you with this data.

How to get:  You need to choose the Assignee report and select the issue list by assignee you need. 

This is how you can monitor who has been working on a particular task except for a given assignee. Based on these data, you can make the following conclusions and decisions on the team's distribution of responsibilities and tasks.

An important condition for accurate data is that your team has to transfer tasks to the statuses according to the stage of work; or that your Jira has integrations that change task statuses instead of employees.

To get accurate data, you can exclude holidays and non-working days(hours) from the calculation. If you have a few teams, which work on different working schedules, you can set a few calendars for each of them.

When the manager concludes that there are problems in the delivery processes, the Time in Status for Jira Cloud gives the ability to look at the historical data and identify bottlenecks in the working process. Moreover, you can monitor who is responsible for the delays. You will have the ability to see the situation retrospectively using existing reports.
