What is Devs Unleashed?

Atlassian is hosting a hackathon leading up to our first-ever agile and DevOps-focused event. We are asking developers to unleash their creativity and build a game in Jira Software, Jira Service Management, or Confluence using Atlassian Forge and REST APIs. Three hackathon finalists will be flown to Berlin to present their games to a celebrity panel and compete for đź’¸ cash prizes đź’¸ at Atlassian Presents: Unleash.

What is the purpose of this Community group?

âť“ Got a question about Atlassian tools or the hackathon? Ask a question and an Atlassian expert will get you the answers you need!

Can I build it with Jira Automation? I can access the API through that. :-}

Requirements are to build an interesting game with Forge that leverages the REST APIs in interesting ways. You can leverage Jira Automation as well but the game must use Forge and the REST APIs.

Hi everyone. I was just eager to know that on the event's devpost resources page it is mentioned that use this Dev Unleashed community for non-technical questions only. So, does it restrict me from asking any technical query here? Waiting for someone's reply.

Just to be on the safer side, we have to make a forge app that sorts of provide a game to interact with the Atlassian SAAS services' data. Right?

Abishek Muthian December 24, 2022

In the hackathon resources page, The 'starter app' link seems to be non-functional, Please check.

Abishek Muthian December 27, 2022

Although the starter app link is still non functional as of writing, I have found its source in the forge examples folder. Sharing it for others - https://bitbucket.org/atlassian/devs-unleashed-forge-app-starter/src/master/ .

Thanks @Abishek Muthian . Accessed the bitbucket repository, but I am getting some errors while setting up the project. The command yarn build is not getting completed:

Have you successfully run the project and deployed it via forge? Any help will be appretiated

@VISHAL VATSIs that WSL? I'm on Linux, Not sure whether their script works in WSL.

VISHAL VATS January 2, 2023

@Abishek Muthian I was trying that on windows. Don't know why the error is coming. @Rachel Tang @Warren Marusiak can you help me out?

@VISHAL VATS please post technical questions in the Forge developer community. https://community.developer.atlassian.com/c/forge/45

@Abishek Muthian the starter app link is now working from the devpost resources page.

@Warren Marusiak  @Rachel Tang I'm a little late to the party, but I just wanted to make sure my idea fits the requirements.  The game is not a Forge app but teaches users how to use Forge to create an app and uses the REST API to validate that certain things are done as the player completes quests and progresses.  It is more of an educational game. From the requirements, it seems like the game has to build using forge since in the submission you have to enter in an app id. I was wondering if my idea still was valid.

It is required to build a game using Forge and the REST APIs. There must be a Forge app that users can install and play. A teaching game is fine but the requirements are clear that it must be a Forge app that uses the Atlassian REST API in interesting ways.

@Warren MarusiakThe video duration limitation is 5 minutes on the hackathon page, But the email instructions when we sign up for the hackathon(Subject: "Devs Unleashed: Devs Unleashed Welcome!") says that the video duration must be under 3 minutes. Kindly confirm that the video duration can be about 5 minutes.

@Warren MarusiakThank you for answering my questions patiently, This is probably the final one.

In the DevPost submission portal there's a mandatory section for Uploading a file (attached image) in the Additional Info page, What needs to be uploaded there? If its for uploading the slides deck, Then the guidelines mention that the slides needs to be in Google slides, Should it be downloaded to some format and then re-uploaded here?

If the Google slides are to be shared via URL, Then there's no specific input field to share the same.

@Abishek Muthian Typically people have been downloading the Google slides and attaching them in the file upload section.

@Warren MarusiakThanks, Are they uploading it in .pdf ?  Should the google slides URL be included somewhere too?
