Is there a way to automatically release a Version?

I know how to release a Version from the Jira interface. What I would like to do is have Jira automatically release the version on the release date. I'm using jelly to create the versions, but I can't find any documentation that points to jelly being able to release them. Any one doing this already?

Can't answer your question wrt to jelly, but releaseVersion action from JIRA Command Line Interface would allow you to automate this from cmd or script.
