By using remote API (XML-RPC in this case), I'm able to set label to a space. However, for some reason these labels are not shown in space admin user interface, making it impossible to remove the label. Haven't tested removing the label via API.
Any reason for such a behaviour? I've also seen some notes about the label namespaces - should they be used (like: ns:label)? I'm currently setting simple labels like 'active'.
As a side note: I'm able to set and see the page labels.

Space labels are called "Space Categories" in the UI: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Using+Labels+to+Categorise+Spaces
You can edit them from the 'Overview' page in the Space Admin.

We're using the on-demand instance. Haven't tested yet what is the outcome when the space is removed via API.

I've now confirmed that the label can be removed via API. And that the label is shown in Content by label macros, the issue is only(?) in space overview UI.
