How to display custom field name instead of custom field number in required field error

Can we display the custom field name instead of the custom field code in the blue box shown below? If so, how can we display this correctly? The below message is not meaningful enough to the users so I would like to be able to crrect it.

"Project Number" is the name. The other part is the id and it is similar to "description" instead of "Description".

If you are developing your own custom field, you can give custom messages during validation.

We have confirmed with the support that this is a bug in JIRA as the custom field ID should not be displayed to users during the required error checking. We are not working on our own custom field so we only rely on the default behavior. Thanks for your answer anyway!
