How can I obtain a token for REST API usage in Confluence cloud edition?

Sorin Sbarnea August 9, 2016

I am trying to obtain an authentication token for using the REST api of a Confluence cloud instance. This instance also happens to be integrated with Google Domain and we have 2FA enabled.

This means that the only way to authenticate using an API would be via a token but I am still looking for a place in the UI where I can generate such token.

Most applications do provide such an option in the user profile page but I wasn't able to find this option yet in Confluence.

The best way to do such a thing would be to register your external service against Confluence as an Atlassian Connect add-on and you will be given a JWT token to make HTTP requests.

Something does not make much sense here...

Atlassian states that Atlassian Connect are web applications.

Clearly a Library that is trying to use a REST service is not a web application. You can more likely describe it as a web-client but clearly not a web application because it does not serve any HTTP, is just consuming.
