Email Notifications

Cheryl Gard May 20, 2013

I am trying to adjust the email notifications going out to a group that follows a space. This space is being reconstructed and everyone is flooded with emails on the changes which are by the 100's daily. How do I make this stop!!!! ????

Simplest way is to change the space permissions so that nobody has permission to view the space.

Then while you are doing the restructure, there will be no emails sent. Once you haev finished, then you can allow view access again.

You could also try this with individual page permissions, if you still need some pages in the space to be accessible.

Hi Cheryl

Maybe you want to vote up these related issues:

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-22313

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-20118

In the meantime, maybe some part-time ideas during your "reconstruction" -

  1. You could remove the group's access to the space completely for a short time.
  2. You could ask your users to stop watching the space (individually) if it bothers them - this may be the easiest.
  3. You could kill all notifications from Confluence - but I think that is a bit drastic measure.

I vote for #2 as making most sense for the moment.

Here's a related thread too:

How can I disable them for a time being then nothing else works. They will need to quit watching several 100 pages everyday. I just want a simple easy way to keep them from being bothered while we reconstruct. It should not be this difficult.

Send a mail to your group/team to:

  1. Click on Space name in Dashboard
  2. Go to Tools (upper right)
  3. Click Stop Watching

They have to do this individually though.

Hi Cheryl,

Have you looked at configuring the recommended updates.

Cheryl Gard May 20, 2013

Yes I have done all this. It still keeps sending the updates. I disabled the plug-in, the email updates, everything.

Cheryl - that only takes care of those recommended updates - not the watch notifications, which are likely where all the notification noise is coming from.
